En este contexto, recientes investigaciones desarrolladas en la Universidad de Chile abren nuevas oportunidades para optimizar la recuperaci\u00f3n de cobre mediante el uso de medios clorados.<\/p>\n<p>El estudio, liderado por el investigador Pablo Jumbo en el marco de su Doctorado en Ingenier\u00eda de Minas, analiza c\u00f3mo la lixiviaci\u00f3n en ambientes con cloruros puede mejorar significativamente el rendimiento en minerales sulfurados, que hoy dominan la base de recursos de la industria.<\/p>\n<h2>Lixiviaci\u00f3n en medios clorados: una alternativa frente a minerales complejos<\/h2>\n<p>El avance de la lixiviaci\u00f3n en medios clorados responde a un cambio estructural en la miner\u00eda del cobre. A medida que los minerales oxidados disminuyen, aumenta la presencia de sulfuros de menor ley, lo que exige nuevas soluciones tecnol\u00f3gicas.<\/p>\n<p>En este escenario, la lixiviaci\u00f3n con cloruros destaca por su capacidad para mejorar la recuperaci\u00f3n de cobre en condiciones donde los m\u00e9todos tradicionales presentan limitaciones. La investigaci\u00f3n demuestra que la incorporaci\u00f3n de cloruro no solo facilita el proceso, sino que tambi\u00e9n cumple un rol fundamental en la activaci\u00f3n de reacciones dentro del sistema.<\/p>\n<p>Uno de los hallazgos m\u00e1s relevantes es que este proceso permite la disoluci\u00f3n de la ganga aluminosilic\u00e1tica, generando condiciones f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicas m\u00e1s favorables para la lixiviaci\u00f3n. Lejos de representar una p\u00e9rdida operativa, este fen\u00f3meno contribuye directamente a la eficiencia global del proceso.<\/p>\n<h2>Lixiviaci\u00f3n y formaci\u00f3n de porosidad: clave para mejorar la recuperaci\u00f3n<\/h2>\n<p>Otro aspecto clave del estudio es la generaci\u00f3n de porosidad interna en el mineral durante la lixiviaci\u00f3n. Este efecto reduce la resistencia a la transferencia de masa, permitiendo que el agente lixiviante acceda con mayor facilidad a la calcopirita encapsulada.<\/p>\n<p>Como resultado, la lixiviaci\u00f3n se vuelve m\u00e1s eficiente, aumentando la recuperaci\u00f3n de cobre en minerales de baja ley.
