En esta l\u00ednea, CIMS JRI desarrolla una investigaci\u00f3n enfocada en optimizar la lixiviaci\u00f3n clorada. Su objetivo es reducir el consumo de \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico y agentes oxidantes, mejorar la recuperaci\u00f3n metal\u00fargica y avanzar hacia procesos m\u00e1s eficientes.<\/p>\n<h2>Desaf\u00edos en la lixiviaci\u00f3n de sulfuros de cobre<\/h2>\n<p>La lixiviaci\u00f3n convencional de sulfuros de cobre exige altos niveles de acidez y potencial redox en medios f\u00e9rricos. En cambio, en la lixiviaci\u00f3n clorada el potencial redox disminuye a medida que aumenta la concentraci\u00f3n de cloruros, permitiendo la disoluci\u00f3n de calcopirita a potenciales m\u00e1s favorables cuando la concentraci\u00f3n supera los 90 g\/L. Este comportamiento representa una alternativa valiosa para optimizar la lixiviaci\u00f3n en Chile, especialmente en yacimientos con minerales complejos.<\/p>\n<h2>Problemas asociados a la precipitaci\u00f3n del hierro<\/h2>\n<p>Uno de los principales desaf\u00edos del proceso es la precipitaci\u00f3n del hierro, que se genera por la hidr\u00f3lisis del ion f\u00e9rrico o cloro-f\u00e9rrico en soluciones \u00e1cidas. Este fen\u00f3meno reduce la disponibilidad de hierro en soluci\u00f3n, disminuye la permeabilidad del lecho mineral, afecta la extracci\u00f3n de cobre por impermeabilizaci\u00f3n superficial y aumenta la formaci\u00f3n de borra, dificultando la separaci\u00f3n de fases en la extracci\u00f3n por solventes. Cuando el pH de la soluci\u00f3n percolada se incrementa debido a una baja adici\u00f3n de \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico, se forman jarositas a pH superiores a 1,5 y oxihidr\u00f3xidos f\u00e9rricos a pH mayores a 2, lo que afecta directamente la estabilidad del proceso.<\/p>\n<h2>Influencia del mineral en el consumo de \u00e1cido<\/h2>\n<p>En yacimientos con \u00f3xidos, silicatos, sulfuros de cobre y otros, el consumo de \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico var\u00eda debido a las diferentes velocidades de reacci\u00f3n de componentes. Esto puede disminuir la extracci\u00f3n global de cobre y afectar la eficiencia de la lixiviaci\u00f3n en Chile. Para evitar la precipitaci\u00f3n de hierro, resulta fundamental que la soluci\u00f3n de riego mantenga un pH entre 1,5 y 1,8 y que la soluci\u00f3n percolada se encuentre bajo pH 2. Esto requiere una adecuada aireaci\u00f3n de las pilas y, en algunos casos, la adici\u00f3n controlada de per\u00f3xido para estabilizar la transici\u00f3n de ferroso a f\u00e9rrico.<\/p>\n<h2>Limitaciones de las soluciones tradicionales<\/h2>\n<p>Se han intentado diversas estrategias para estabilizar el hierro en soluci\u00f3n, como el uso de sulfato o cloruro f\u00e9rrico y la adici\u00f3n de sulfato ferroso con per\u00f3xido de hidr\u00f3geno. Sin embargo, estos m\u00e9todos ofrecen resultados limitados, ya que requieren altas dosis de reactivos para mantener estable la concentraci\u00f3n de hierro f\u00e9rrico.<\/p>\n<h2>Avances mediante la metodolog\u00eda Lixsemin<\/h2>\n<p>Para abordar estos desaf\u00edos, el Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n en Miner\u00eda Sustentable CIMS JRI desarrolla la metodolog\u00eda de Lixiviaci\u00f3n Secuencial de Minerales (Lixsemin), dise\u00f1ada para reducir el consumo de reactivos y aumentar la recuperaci\u00f3n de cobre. Esta metodolog\u00eda establece un control riguroso sobre el pH de la soluci\u00f3n de riego y de la soluci\u00f3n percolada, optimiza la aireaci\u00f3n de las pilas y favorece la oxidaci\u00f3n controlada del ferroso a f\u00e9rrico. Adem\u00e1s, Lixsemin ha sido aplicada con \u00e9xito en minerales polimet\u00e1licos que contienen cobre, oro y plata, lo que ampl\u00eda su aplicaci\u00f3n dentro de la miner\u00eda nacional.<\/p>\n<h2>Aportes a la optimizaci\u00f3n de la lixiviaci\u00f3n en Chile<\/h2>\n<p>La optimizaci\u00f3n de la lixiviaci\u00f3n clorada mediante estas innovaciones representa un avance relevante para fortalecer la lixiviaci\u00f3n en Chile, ya que permite mejorar la eficiencia metal\u00fargica, estabilizar los procesos hidrometal\u00fargicos y reducir el consumo de reactivos.
